Without any prior art training, Charles "Chick" Curtis, was starting his art odyssey from scratch. He bought art books, looked at art magazines, copied the masters, went to demos, galleries, exhibits, museums, shows and painted voraciously every day. He attended workshops with Ken Auster, Glenn Vilippu, Jeremy Lipking, Ron Pokrass, David Leffel and many other wonderful artists.
He has also studied with the extraordinary artist Joseph Todorovitch for the past 3 years. But the greatest surprise and measure of his improvement as an artist, he says, comes from his teaching
"I have two classes: one in Redlands and the other in Corona. I love my students. They teach me something only a teacher can understand. You can’t delude yourself in the presence of instructing others. You have to be genuine. You have to think very carefully about what it is that you do in your own art before you can help someone else develop their own process."
When asked if his goals have changed in the last decade as an artist, he says, "No, they’re still the same. I want to continue learning about how to be a better artist. And a better teacher."
