Mary Gehley

From the Artist:

 

I am a mixed media artist based in Southern California. I grew up in a family of creative people who encouraged me to explore a variety of artistic pursuits - music, dance, visual arts – nothing was off the table. My career path took me in a different direction, but I enjoyed sewing and quilting in my spare time. Later I serendipitously discovered the world of gourd art, and became a gourd art specialist for a local gourd farm. After retirement from the workaday world, I studied drawing and painting.

 

I spend almost every day in my home studio - playing with color, experimenting with different processes, tools and media, learning the rules and then purposefully breaking them. I don’t like to be limited by genre, palette or style, so my art is as colorful and eclectic as the world I live in. My current work combines elements of both abstraction and realism and is inspired by nature, the human figure, and the diversity of my Southern California experience. My art is in collections across the US and around the globe. It brings me joy to share it with you.
