Rebecca Jo Steelman, was born in Iowa with a gift for drawing, and has lived in the Southern Calif. Inland Empire since 1974. She is a mother of three sons, an avidly active artist, and has enjoyed being an art collector of fellow artists works. She graduated from Eisenhower HS in Rialto with High Honors, and two Art Scholarships, and studied academics and art at California State University, San Bernardino. Rebecca exhibits her work at the Riverside Art Museum as well as local art galleries.

Her work has also been exhibited internationally, and many of her pieces have been honored with awards ~ from Honorable Mentions to First Place ribbons. Many pieces have been purchased and made home into private collections in the United States, UK, and Europe. In 2019, Rebecca Jo became a proud member of the widely acclaimed, California Art Club(CAC), with whom she will happily be continuing to make leaps and bounds of painterly progress.

In regards to her artistic sensibilities, Rebecca likes a straight-forward, relaxed approach to her artwork, as it relates inherently with her great love for Nature, in oneness with all life.  This spiritual connection is always what she seeks to convey in her work – be it a landscape or seascape, a floral abstract, or a portrait painting. Her artwork is done both in the studio and en plein air.  She was moved to begin exploring plein air slowly on her own at first in 2013, and then was introduced by a friend to the Riverside Art Museum(RAM) group, the Plein Air Artists of Riverside (PAAR), which she then joined in 2014. Although a creative all her life, Rebecca is highly motivated in honing artistic skills and sensibility, selling her work to collectors desiring to grace their homes, and exhibiting on a regular basis at galleries, including at this time, with the California Art Club(CAC), Riverside Community Art Association, RAM, The Arts Colony in Corona, Chaffey Community Museum of Art(CCMA), and San Bernardino Art Association(SBAA). She has successfully taught painting workshops at her church and given a number of presentations in public events – finding that she likes this aspect of community involvement a lot – so needless to say, she aspires to do workshops and demos in the future as she steadily moves into a more full-time, pro standing in the field of Art.

Whether in studio or outdoors on location, Rebecca allows Spirit, her paints and brushes, training and practice, sight perception, and intuitive feelings, to provide a sense of direction for every piece unto completion. In her occasional abstract process, she has been known to break into a minimalist palette, or sometimes into exploring somewhat expressionistic or looser representational work using collage elements with acrylic media.  Currently though, she is primarily focused on honing her skills with oils and watercolors in impressionist representational landscapes from life en plein air settings, as well as from imagination and photo reference in her studio time.
