Yellow Bird Big Bird | Watercolor

Each year the Oriole visits the giant bird of paradise in our yard to drink the sticky nectar its flowers produce. He brings his mate and they set up housekeeping in the fan palms near by. I love watching them busily make a nest and produce their offspring only to all fly away until next spring. In this painting the beautiful male is perched, drinking from one of the blooms.

Spot and Friends | Mixed Media

Spot and friends is a silly fun make believe day outing for Spot and his dogs friends and others. It is intended to engage children and inspire imagination. Lots of images for kids to find. This image has been used in pediatric care settings with the hope of bringing a smile to a child’s face and a necessary diversion. It’s friendly approachable subject matter will ease fears and delight. Paper from books, maps, and magazines were used to construct this piece.

Block of Birds With Navels | Mixed Media

Block of Birds with Navels is a play on words used to describe the cubistic nature of the bird of paradise depicted in this fun work. And navels, well yes, it has some navel oranges in for more fun. This abstract floral has color, pattern, geometric and a little zebra animal print just to make it pop. The painting was challenging to do with its detail and multiple shapes. Spend some time looking and see what you can find.

Paper VW Bus | Mixed Media

Paper VW Bus is a funky fun paper collage of magazines, junk mail, and seed catalogs. The bus is all flowers from catalogs. Fun project with a lot of little images within the big image. The more you look, the more you see. A little dog, a girl surfer, fish and boats.

Santa Rosa Plateau Vernal Pools | Pastel

Vernal pools are left by heavy rains, but not every year. This pastel on pastel board was done from photos taken on the plateau a few years ago after we had a lot of rain. The sky was a wonderful, crisp, cerulean blue, reflected in the standing water of the pools, while the surrounding brush was the compliment of golden creating the most pleasing pallett.

Coral Reef Robin Coats | Acrylic

Bright orange coral pops on the peaceful, light filtered blues of this ocean scene. This work was done with hand made original stamps and acrylic paint, with little use of an actual paint brush.

Robin Coats is an artist living in Southern California in the city of Corona. She has been interested in art since a small child, drawing and painting on her own and later formally studying art in high school and in college. Robin continues to further her knowledge and skill most notably studying under Subodh Maheshwari and Helen Schaffer Garcia.

Robin works in various mediums, such as watercolor, acrylic, oil, and soft pastel. She has created assemblage jewelry and magazine collage. Her hanging assemblage pieces are held in private collections in Oregon and Colorado.

Robin finds inspiration in nature and her colorful flower garden. Her creativity is often sparked by light and shadow playing in the landscape. Painting en plein air is a particular creative pleasure.

She is honored to have had magazine collages, “Spot and Friends”, “School of Fish” and “Fetch” reproduced for display in children’s healthcare facilities in the Boston area in 2020.

Robins collage “Torn up Over Maui” has been licensed as a book jacket by Publisher Harper Collins for the novel “A Theory of Love” 2018 by author Margaret Bradham Thornton.
